MİNİK BAR

by Hüseyin Yılmaz

MİNİK BAR is in downtown İstanbul. Step by step, the Tarlabaşı district is being destroyed: old historical buildings, the texture and colours of streets, beggers, street singers, and different identities are eliminated by the gentrification process, in the name of “slum clearance”. Prostitutes, transsexuals, Kurds, Armenians, the Roma people, immigrants of all kinds, and many others, are the victims of this gentrification. They are pushed to the outskirts of İstanbul. As a result, the city is losing its memory and colours. Everything is melting away; memories are turning grey. MİNİK BAR is a STAND IN SILENCE to this memory.
